Within one of my rendering courses, my colleagues and I were tasked to pick a commercial retail category (from a list that was provided by the professor) and create a design that will best fit the community surrounding it, working within the Junction area which is in Toronto (Dundas Street W. and Keele Street) To place and design a t-shirt printing company within my given site, since based on my demographic research, the Junction area could profit from having more retail stores. I designed “The Embroidery Bar” to be a store where you can get in-house hand-stitched clothing items on-demand, as well as where you can place orders for prints. The site is equipped with a hand-embroidery station, changerooms, P.O.S cash registry area, as well as multiple millwork units featuring the clothing garments they sell. Furthermore, I kept the design of the space minimal (light colour palette, and simple material choices of natural wood, light grey tiling, and an off-white paint) to put emphasis on the products they sell.
